Hello there, internets! Long time, no see. I know I’ve been missing from this blog for about four weeks, and I’m really sorry about that. Here’s a basic breakdown of what I’ve been doing: working, making travel plans, and quilting. Seriously, that’s it. On the day after Thanksgiving, I decided that I would make quilts for my mom, sisters in law, and my niece for Christmas. Now, I had done a little bit of work here and there on the quilts for my sisters in law, but really, I was pretty much starting from scratch. (Just for the record, you should never try to make four full quilts in three weeks, unless you plan to forgo things like sleeping, showering, and interacting with the rest of the human race.)
Since I do have a full-time job and my husband really appreciates it when I shower regularly, I didn’t quite make my self-imposed Christmas deadline – but I got the one for my mom completely finished and was able to wrap quilt tops for each of them to open on Christmas, at least! Here’s what I made:

This one was for my sister in law Sarah. The details – Pattern: Birthday Quilt from Pam & Nicky Linott’s Jelly Roll Inspirations (it looks complicated, but it’s actually pretty simple once you get the hang of the blocks). Fabric: Blush by Basic Grey for Moda Size: 70″ square.

This one is my sister in law Lisa’s. I don’t have a more recent picture of this one – I added a cream border after I took this picture. The details – Pattern: Market Square by Sweet Jane’s Quilting & Design (I modified it a bit but the blocks are the same). Fabric: Laurel by Sentimental Studios for Moda. Size: 56″ x 68″.

As you might have guessed, this one was for my niece Allison. I don’t have this one basted yet because I’m planning to add a few more applique details to the top. (If you’re wondering, I made my own pattern for her name applique – I just typed her name in a word doc, found a font I liked, played with the letter size until it fit the space I had for it, then printed, traced backwards on fusible web, ironed to fabric, and cut it out VERY carefully with my sharpest pair of scissors.) I’ll also add a rod pocket to the backing so that it can be hung. The details – Pattern: Modified from Piece N Quilt’s 9 Birdie Baby Quilt (I just love Natalia’s designs, and some of you might recognize this block pattern because I’ve used it before). Fabric: Make Life by Sweetwater for Moda. Size: 44″ square.

Finally, this quilt is the one I finished for my mom (though this is only a picture of the top; I’ve asked her to take pictures of the finished quilt since I forgot to do so!). Mom always does so much to make our Christmases together special, and who better to have her own quilt just for Christmas time?? The details – Pattern: is one that Basic Grey put out for their Figgy Pudding line last year. I was able to find it as a free download on the Fat Quarter Shop a few months ago (but I think they’ve taken it down now?). Fabric: Fruitcake by Basic Grey for Moda. Size: 66″ x 72″.
So, yeah, um – now can you see why I barely had time to breathe, let alone update? Still, sorry to leave you all in the lurch so long! I’ll try to get myself back on an updating schedule in the coming weeks
. Now it’s your turn – how were your holidays? Please link to your projects or just tell me how you managed to survive in the comments!!
